Philippe Lincy – Professional African Drummer
Philippe Lincy is a highly respected professional drummer, percussionist, and music educator who has lived and worked in Australia for many years.
Philippe Lincy and my heritage is Guadeloupe in the West Indies(on the side of my father). Philippe has dedicated most of his life to performing, teaching, and sharing the rich traditions of West African drumming and percussion across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region..
Deeply rooted in cultural storytelling, African drumming has traditionally been used as a powerful form of communication and expression. Philippe brings this history to life through performance, education, and workshops that connect rhythm, movement, and human connection. Like a heartbeat, drumming speaks to something primal and universal — a language understood by all.
He grew up and lived in Paris where he began to play the Djembe at age of 15 years old with Guinea Community in Paris in 1979.
Later he went to West Africa and made way to Senegal and it was first contact with Djembe and Dundun drums
